The Pinhead Cup consists of open card-based qualifying and match play final rounds and is open to all players attending the event. During open qualifying, each player may purchase as many cards as they like to attempt to qualify for the final rounds. A point system is used to rank each player’s score on each machine. Those who possess the highest ranking card (5 consecutive games on one card) at the end of qualifying will participate in the match play final rounds.

Each player’s best score on a machine will receive a point value based on its rank compared to all other recorded scores. The #1 score earns 100 points, #2 score earns 97 points, #3 score earns 95 points and #4 and beyond earn one less point per position, i.e. 94 points down through 1 point. A player’s overall score for a card is the sum of five ranked machine scores

The Pinhead Cup will contain multiple games to choose from and cards will consist of 5 consecutive machines.

Events Are Back

February 29.2020 was the last tournament that took place before everything had to shutdown. Since there are no current restrictions on capacity, Manitoba Pinball League is proud to announce events are coming back.

September 27 will be a women’s tournament and September 29 will be an open tournament. These will be casual tournaments with no IFPA points on the line and no entrance fee. Time and style of tournament is still being discussed. More information will be posted on the website and Facebook when details are finalized. We have some interesting ideas for new tournament formats and will be trying them out later in the year. League nights might start back up in 2022. If there is interest we can look into running a smaller fall and winter league.

To assist us with running events, we encourage people not to show up if they are not feeling well. Events at locations open to the public need to follow current health guidelines from the government of Manitoba.  The guidelines include wearing a mask and showing proof of vaccination.

AMCC – Parking Lot Changes

For those coming to Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club for tonight’s pinball tournament, if you haven’t been to AMCC for a few months, you will notice that parking has changed a bit due to construction next door – the extended lot on the east side is no longer available. If you cannot find parking in front or beside the building, you can park behind the building on the north side. See the linked map below.

For those who have never been to AMCC, the pinball machines are upstairs on the 2nd floor. Easiest way to find them is to enter in the side door (east side), the stairs upstairs will be on your left, go up & turn left – you will see the machines along the wall opposite the curling rinks.

Also a friendly reminder:
We will have dinner together at 5pm if you want to join us
Tournament start time is 6pm
Bring loonies & quarters – limited change on site

Manitoba Pinball League Championship – Results

The 2019 Manitoba Pinball League season has officially concluded. Congratulations to Ian G who is our new MPL champion!!!!! Ian won 4 games to 2 against Marcel T who took 2nd place.

3rd went to Jay W who won 2-1 against Grant Z who was looking to make it 2 3rd places in a row after finishing 3rd in the 2018 MPL championship, & who was looking to find his pants too I think. ?

The remaining places went as follows:

5th – David Morris
6th – Drew S
7th – Samara M
8th – Rick E

9th – Michael C, Derek W, Dave W, Lance W, Garth B, Dan F, David Mi, Jody L

Jay W also received his plaque for finishing the season in 1st place with the most league points.

Congratulations to ALL!!!!! There were a lot of strong games played in the 3rd & final rounds, even in a losing cause. Thank you all for making the 2019 season one to remember. We look forward to seeing you in 2020!

In the meantime, there is still at least 1 more tournament in 2019. Next up, some MPL players will be heading down to Fargo to play with our friends across the border in the Fargo Billiards Strike Tournament on Saturday November 30th. Although the vehicle heading down is currently full, feel free to drive down & join the crew. Or if you’re interested in joining should a spot in the vehicle open up, contact David – you can email: dave@manitobapinball.com

AMCC Welcome Back Matchplay – Results

Congratulations to Drew S who won the AMCC welcome back tournament! Jay W took 2nd in a closely fought final. Ian G beat Alain L in the 3rd place match. Congrats to Alain on his best finish by far by placing 4th. On a night that felt more like we were welcoming back winter (with a vengeance) including slushy roads, fallen trees, & numerous power outages that affected at least 2 players in the tournament, we still had 11 players from the St. James – Assiniboia area plus Drew & Jay. And the kids participating had a lot of fun playing with us too.

Next up – the MPL Autumn Climb The Ladder Spectacular MAJOR TOURNAMENT! Prizes for the top SIX finishers! Saturday October 26th @ 2pm – Phantom Amusement @ The Forks.
